Interactive 3D virtual model of Nintendo DS console
Dual Screens: The Nintendo DS’s LCD screens deliver one of the most
groundbreaking game-play advances ever developed: introducing unique methods of control and the ability to experience games from two perspectives
at once. Each screen can reproduce true 3-D renderings of game environments and is back-lit to ensure comfortable game-play in any lighting condition.
Top Screen: Back-lit, 3-inch TFT colour LCD screen, with 256 x 192 pixel
resolution, .24 mm dot pitch, and capable of displaying 260,000 colours.
Touch Screen: Same specs as Top Screen, but is also an analogue touch
screen with a tougher film covering for durability. This lower screen offers something never before provided by any game console: PDA-style touch input
capabilities. Nintendo DS owners no longer need to rely on just buttons to move characters or shift perspectives: you can navigate menus or access
inventory items simply by touching the screen with the stylus (included) or a fingertip. This screen is used as an input center for both games & messaging.
Microphone: The Nintendo DS console’s embedded microphone and
microphone port gives you a completely new way to interact with and control games. Some DS software can identify everything from basic sounds such as
hand-clapping to verbal commands via voice recognition. The communication capabilities also allow you to chat with other gamers while playing.
3-D Graphics: With a newly developed graphics engine, the Nintendo DS
produces impressive 3-D renderings that far surpass graphics displayed by GameBoy Advance consoles. Nintendo DS games run at 60 frames per second, which allows complex details like fog effects and cel shading.
Sound: The 16-channel sound allows for greatly expanded use of voices and
music - offering a richer, more immersive game experience. Stereo speakers provide virtual surround sound and the DS has a port for stereo headphones.
Wireless Communication: DS owners can connect with a local wireless
network of up to 16 players. The Nintendo DS’s guaranteed range is 30 feet, but extends up to 100 feet depending on circumstances. It assures high response
rates required for real time game-play (using both IEEE 802.11 and Nintendo's proprietary communication protocol). You can chat and play games without
any connecting cables between consoles. Nintendo DS technology also provides for a wireless LAN connection, which allows you to connect with an
almost infinite number of other players at a “hot spot”, competing at a central game hub on the Internet, even if you are thousands of miles apart.
Wireless Game Sharing: Multiple players can compete in wireless games,
even if only one console has the Game Card inserted. You can also test-play games as long as you stay within range of the DS with the game loaded.
New Media: For its compact Game Cards, the Nintendo DS console uses
newly developed semiconductor memory, which allows for a capacity of more than one gigabit of information.
Dual Slots: Nintendo’s DS console is backwards-compatible with the vast
library of Gameboy Advance games already available. (Developers are currently working on ways to make new connections between GBA and DS games.) The
GBA port can also be used for new hardware, enormously expanding the functional capabilities of the DS console.
Console Size (closed): 5.85 inches wide, 3.33 inches long, 1.13 inches tall
Processing: The console runs on two processors, one ARM9 and one ARM7
Battery & Power Management: The rechargeable (AC adapter included)
Lithium ion battery delivers six to ten hours of game-play on a 4-hour charge (depending on use) and the unit has a low-energy-consumption system. The
Nintendo DS console also has Power Management functions of Sleep and Standby modes. Using Sleep mode, you can stop and resume game-play whenever you want. If you receive a message from a friend or user nearby, the
Nintendo DS can automatically activate itself from Standby mode.
Other features: Embedded PictoChat software allows you and up to 15
other DS owners to communicate at once. Embedded real-time clock with date, time and alarm. Touch Screen sensitivity calibration.
